Advanced Cancer Care: It’s Within Easy Reach

When asked why it was important for a regional cancer care center to affiliate with a university-level comprehensive cancer care program, Steven Plaxe, MD, Director of Eisenhower’s Lucy Curci Cancer Center, offered this compelling insight into the advantages that this partnership brings to the Eisenhower Health system:

What we find is there are lots of patients who really would do very well with some of the innovative and really latest treatments available at comprehensive cancer centers. By affiliating with a comprehensive cancer center like UCSD, there are treatments and interventions that are available only at these centers. We’re able to bring clinical research, consultants, and facilitate specialty and consultative care, tumor conferences and discussions with multiple experts in a number of fields that can bear upon each patients’ cancer. Only through affiliation with a comprehensive cancer center can we bring these important interventions, treatments and options closer to patients where they live. It’s within easy reach.

Steven Plaxe, MD, and Katie Schnaser, FACHE

Katie Schnaser, FACHE, Chief Administrative Officer, Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center, points out that those advanced services and programs augment the already-strong regional cancer center services that Lucy Curci Cancer Center provides. Ms. Schnaser highlighted the genetic counseling program, subspecialty clinics for rare cancers and a lecture series that takes advantage of UC San Diego Health knowledge and talent as outstanding examples of what the partnership is already delivering. This partnership is a real game-changer for Eisenhower Health and the community it serves. On this audio podcast you will learn more about the expanded services and capabilities this partnership makes possible, including:
