Colonoscopy and Colorectal Cancer Update: Good News

Of all the cancers affecting men and women, colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death from cancer in the United States. Yet it doesn’t always have to be fatal; timely colonoscopy screening can make the difference in outcomes.

Colon cancer is one of the few cancers we can actually prevent through the cancer screening program (colonoscopy)… the vast majority of these colon cancers are completely preventable,” asserts Scott Gehring, MD, double Board Certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the American Board of General Surgery and Vice President of Surgical Services at Eisenhower Health in Rancho Mirage, California.

James Conti, MD, a Board Certified Gastroenterologist, also with Eisenhower Health in Rancho Mirage, provides insight on what may put individuals in the “high risk” category. “High risk is based on individual family members… and (you) having certain gastrointestinal diseases, such as chronic inflammatory bowel disease.”

In this short, audio podcast entitled Colonoscopy Guidance for Colorectal Cancer Prevention (Good News), listen as Scott Gering and James Conti discuss the benefits of colonoscopy screening and changes that offer good news for the reluctant participant. They cover:

  • Screening guidelines – when to start/stop and frequency of testing
  • Importance of detecting and removing pre-cancerous polyps
  • How to tell if you’re high risk
  • Changes in colonoscopy preparation (Good News)
  • Onset age trending changes

We cover these topics and more in this informative audio podcast. Take a moment out of your busy day and treat your health as a priority.
