Genetic Cancer Counseling: Uncovering a Hereditary Predisposition for Cancer

Genetic cancer counseling and testing can provide “information that is game-changing for a lot of families,” says Lisa Madlensky, PhD, CGC, and Director – Family Cancer Genetics Program at Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, referring to the benefits of prevention or early detection for family members.

“With genetic testing so readily available today, the role of a genetic counselor plays an even more vital part in understanding this complex field,” adds Alison Sachs, MSW, LSW, OSW-C, and Director, Community Outreach and Cancer Support Services at Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center.
