How to Tell When It’s Time for Joint Replacement Surgery

Is your knee and hip pain unbearable? If so, or if it’s trending in the wrong direction, maybe it’s time to consider joint replacement surgery. And time to catch up on the latest in this area of healthcare.

“There are so many changes that have happened from 10 years ago to now,” says John DeSantis, DO, a Board Certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center in Rancho Mirage, CA.

Among the concepts discussed in this audio podcast is prehabilitation – physical conditioning in advance of surgery to improve post-operative success. According to James Bell, MD, PhD, a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon certified in Sports Medicine who is also with Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center, “the more strength and fitness that patients have prior surgery, they really do better AFTER the surgery.”
