If you or a loved one have been told that you have scoliosis, you know it can be a big health challenge that may worsen over time. With scoliosis “an individualized approach is key,” says Reginald Fayssoux, MD, a fellowship-trained and Board Certified orthopedic spinal surgeon with Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center. One such distinction is the significant difference between treatment protocols for adults and children.
For instance, Dr. Fayssoux points out that children have solutions to prevent further progression of the curvature in the adolescent growth spurt. However, once the patient has reached skeletal maturity, these solutions are no longer viable and other solutions to manage the scoliosis must be considered.
In this Health Insights blog post – Quick Video Tip: Scoliosis Management Overview and Options – Dr. Fayssoux provides a succinct overview of the disease and options available to improve quality of living for people dealing with scoliosis issues. Fayssoux covers:
- Scoliosis definition
- Adult vs child distinctions
- Disc degeneration
- Non-surgical remedies
- Surgery considerations
- Conservative vs. advanced treatments
- Causality
Once you watch this video, you’ll understand why treatments for scoliosis aren’t “one size fits all.” As Dr. Fayysoux says, an individualized approach is key to good outcomes.
