The Charles Rechlin Outpatient Treatment Center at Eisenhower Health, under the leadership of Dr. Eduardo Javier, is a vital resource for individuals confronting substance use disorders in the Coachella Valley. Specializing in treatments such as medication-assisted therapy for alcohol and opioid use disorders, outpatient withdrawal management for all substances, benzodiazepine de-prescribing consultations, and more, the center empowers patients to recover while maintaining their daily lives.
Dr. Javier’s path into addiction medicine began after medical school, where he recognized a gap in his training to care for patients at the height of the opiate epidemic. Now, as the Program Director for addiction medicine fellowships, he combines his expertise with a commitment to creating a safe, judgement-free environment for patients. In addition, he plays a pivotal role in training future specialists, equipping them to address addiction care with compassion and competence.
The center’s growth mirrors its impact. From just 132 visits in 2020 to over 1,000 distinct patients in 2023, it has become a vital resource for recovery and education. Its achievements include distributing 1,000 free Narcan kits and graduating eight Addiction Medicine fellows, marking a commitment to both patient care and community well-being.
