In 2015, Eisenhower Health became the first and only hospital in the Coachella Valley to offer Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), a revolutionary, minimally invasive procedure to treat severe aortic stenosis. Ten years and nearly 1,300 procedures later, Eisenhower is proud to celebrate a decade of transforming lives through this advanced cardiac treatment.
Aortic stenosis, which restricts blood flow due to a narrowed aortic valve, once required openheart surgery for treatment. For many patients, especially older adults or those with complicating health conditions, this was not a safe or viable option. TAVR changed that. By allowing the aortic valve to be replaced through a catheter rather than open surgery, the procedure significantly reduces recovery time, risk, and discomfort.
Since introducing TAVR, Eisenhower Health has achieved a remarkable 99% success rate, exceeding national benchmarks. This level of excellence is possible thanks to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that includes interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac anesthesiologists, imaging experts, and specialized nurses and support staff — all dedicated to delivering personalized, evidence-based care.
Eisenhower Health’s leadership in TAVR has earned national recognition. The hospital was the first in California to complete the prestigious Edwards Benchmark™ program, setting the standard for clinical quality in TAVR. Eisenhower was also named the first Case Observation Site for the program in the U.S., training cardiology teams from across the country on its best-in-class practices.
This milestone highlights Eisenhower’s continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of cardiovascular care while keeping patients at the center of every decision. From being a top-rated heart program to earning Magnet® recognition for nursing excellence, Eisenhower Health continues to raise the bar for quality, innovation and community care.
As Eisenhower celebrates a decade of TAVR success, we remain focused on what matters most: helping our patients live longer, healthier lives — with access to world-class heart care, right here in the Coachella Valley.
