Deep Dive Video: A Women’s Guide to Healthy Aging

Many women have demanding lives caring for family, professional commitments, volunteering, crisis management and just “keeping the railroad running” in general. Guess what’s often sacrificed along the way? – that woman’s health. Many of us find there aren’t enough hours in the day to do all of the things that need to be done for others, let alone ourselves.

Keeping up with the latest health information supporting a woman’s journey toward healthy aging can take a lot of time. For many of us that means it isn’t happening. Help is on the way in this video lecture presented by Ms. Cari Sudmeir, NP, a highly regarded expert on women’s health issues. She’s passionate about getting information into the hands of those who need it, including: medical advances, data and science supporting screening tests, which tests you need and frequency, prevention and more.

She also tackles common misconceptions. For instance, one of the more common misconceptions is it’s not necessary to get routine mammograms when there’s no history of breast cancer in the family. She points out that:

“75% of women (or men) diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of breast cancer!”

Hereditary connection is an important predictor for potential breast cancer yet, not having a history of familial breast cancer certainly won’t insulate you from this disease. If you skip your annual mammogram because no one in your family had breast cancer, you could be making a costly decision based on a common misconception.

In this Health Insights blog edition – A Woman’s Guide to Healthy Aging – Cari Sudmeir, NP, presents the information women need for healthy aging. A lot of ground is covered in this Deep Dive Video, including:

  • Why women are living longer
  • Why it’s important to get pap smears regularly
  • What is HIV?
  • Best practice mammogram technology: 3D Tomosynthesis
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy
  • Screening tests and guidelines
  • Recommended health screenings

Understanding and managing women’s health issues now will help you to thrive as you age, not just survive. Cari Sudmeier presents it all in an engaging Above the Belly Button & Below the Belly Button approach.
