An astounding 100 million people in the U.S. deal with chronic pain. “There’s no way to account for the suffering and loss of quality of life,” observes Hazmer Cassim, DO, a Board Certified physiatrist (PM&R) with Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center – Pain Management Clinic who adds that pain is the number one reason for emergency room visits.
It’s not just the magnitude of people who deal with chronic pain on a daily basis and the toll it takes on them and their loved ones, it’s also the amount of money attributed to pain treatment and its consequences – a staggering $550 billion annually.
