Physical Therapy for Orthopedic Conditions

Physical therapy helps people of all ages who deal with orthopedic medical conditions, illnesses or injuries. Medical conditions relating to knees, shoulders, feet, ankles, elbows, lower back and more may improve with physical therapy.

“A lot of patients may see their physician and a physician may say that at this point surgery is not an option, and they’d like to try conservative care first, and that’s where we come in. Insurance companies also would like to have that conservative route taken first before they go right to surgery,” says Paige Larson, MPT, Director, Physical Therapy at Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center in Rancho Mirage, California.

Returning patients to a quality of life that they are familiar with is the goal, regardless of whether it’s to avoid surgery altogether or recover after surgery. Yet as sophisticated as physical therapy can get for a patient, it’s important to understand that they get out of it what they put into it.
