Quick Video Tip: Lateral Hip Pain Remedies

You can put worries about surgery aside when you follow these nonsurgical tips to treat and heal your lateral hip pain… or even prevent it from happening in the first place.

A common cause of lateral hip pain is greater trochanteric bursitis. The greater trochanter is a bony prominence on the outside of the hip where muscles from the pelvis attach. Because of the positioning, pain in this area can be quite bothersome.

“It may take months to resolve, so patience and persistence are key,” cautions Dustin Briggs, MD, Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery, affiliated with the Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center in Rancho Mirage, California. In this edition of the Health Insights blog – Quick Video Tip: Lateral Hip Pain Remedies – Dr. Briggs covers a number of non-surgical options, including:

  • Myofascial release
  • OTC or prescription anti-inflammatories
  • Foam roller and massage ball
  • Theragun
  • Ultrasound and electrical stimulation

This condition is particularly associated with core weakness and low back stiffness. So, Dr. Briggs doesn’t want us to forget about the gym for “core to floor” strengthening and stretching. The video in this blog post is chock-full of great treatment options that you can do at home.
