Sports medicine may sound exotic and only intended for serious amateur and professional athletes. Yet it isn’t just for athletes and weekend warriors – active individuals can also benefit from being treated by sports medicine specialists.

And don’t think that just because you’re older you won’t benefit from sports medicine. “As we get older our musculature doesn’t move as easy… things become more restricted. Stretching does become a little more important because you are prone to more injuries,” says Dr. Rajiv Tailor, Medical Director of the Eisenhower Sports Medicine Clinic.

Dr. Tailor encourages people of all ages to be proactive when they’re about to start a new sports activity, such as – pickle ball, tennis, or golf – and to come in for an evaluation and conditioning plan to prepare in advance of starting their new activity.

Rajiv Tailor, MD:

In this informative Health Insights podcast – Should You See a Sports Medicine Specialist? – Dr. Tailor helps us to understand its value to athletes and a wider group of active individuals than people normally associate with sports medicine. Some of the topics he covers include:

  • Do I need primary care or sports medicine?
  • Common sport injuries treated
  • Repetitive movement problems
  • Sports medicine technology
  • Non-surgical procedures
  • Treatment options

If you and/or your children are athletic, you may already know the value of sports medicine. If you’re an active adult, particularly if you’re thinking of taking up a new activity, Dr. Tailor’s podcast may help you see the value of incorporating sports medicine as part of your health care team.
